Our first international and we are desperately disappointed not to come away with the win. To concede a goal so late in the game, after leading for so long, was just heartbreaking.
Daniel Bowkett scored our goal – a stunning strike from outside the penalty area half way through the first half.
The players did our country proud, and could not be faulted in their attitude and work rate. The Scots didn’t know what hit them in the first half, as we came flying out of the traps and dominated them for long periods of time. In the second half we faded a little, and with the Scottish coach able to make full use of all eight of his substitutes, the fresh legs started to swing the game back in their favour.
Judd had a goal disallowed, for a marginal off-side decision, and the Scots had a player sent off about half way through the second half.
They will think they deserved a draw, we are disappointed that we couldn’t hold on at the end.
That is the first time a NZ under 19 Schoolboys team has not been beaten by Scotland. A very credible performance from our team.
Well done men!
